Helping Chicago Startups Sizzle By Meeting Their Legal Needs

By Pasha Vaziri

What do Twinkies, spray paint, blood banks, and sleeper cars on trains all have in common? They were all invented in the Chicago area!

Chicago has long been known as a hub of innovation, and Vaziri Law LLC is proud of the role we play to help continue that tradition. Our experienced team counsels Chicagoland startups on all of their legal needs.

A Rich History, And A Bright Future

Chicago may have been founded as a fur trading post, but it long ago established itself as a hub of invention and innovation. Over the years, Chicago area startups have grown into global powerhouses. While there are few industries that have not benefited from one Chicago innovation or another, this area of the country is well-known for its food, healthcare, home goods, and transportation businesses. These are core industries that touch the lives of every American.

Although Chicago’s industrial acumen is well-established, that does not mean there is nothing new going on here. A recent article in Forbes details some of the biggest deals that went down in the Chicago area this year:

“Companies like Sprout Social, Oak Street Health, and GoHealth have all IPO-ed in the past three years. Add to that the IPO of Livongo, which was founded by Chicago-based 7wireVentures’ managing partner Glenn Tullman. (Livongo was acquired by Teledoc, creating a $37 billion remote healthcare company last year.) This year we’ve seen Enfusion and Ryan Specialty Group ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange, and ThoughtWorks started trading on NASDAQ. The Chicago region has had a banner year, especially if you loop in Rivian, which IPO-ed at $66.5 billion. The California-headquartered company operates its first electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois, a short drive downstate from the city.”

The article also emphasizes the fact that the top twelve Chicago area venture capital firms have collectively raised more than $5.7 billion dollars, and are eager to invest.

Chicago is truly an exciting place to be, and Vaziri Law LCC is thrilled that we are able to play a small but important role in the startup scene.

Helping Chicago Area Businesses With Formation & Financing

Turning an idea into a business takes a lot of hustle, but it also takes a fair amount of paperwork. The Vaziri Law LLC team helps business owners handle their drafting, filing, permitting, and licensing, so they can focus on the business aspects of starting and growing a business.

At the startup stage, we advise Chicago area entrepreneurs on all aspects of business formation. We counsel startups on the pros and cons of various business entities. Once they have selected the right vehicle for their ideas, we work with them to prepare their organizational documents — like articles of incorporation and bylaws — and file the necessary paperwork to obtain required tax ids, licenses, and permits.

When our clients are ready to expand, we help them jump over any regulatory hurdles that are impeding their growth. One of the key things we do is help clients who are ready to seek financing ensure they are meeting the legal requirements set out by their bank or investors. Tightly drafted agreements that are fair to all of the parties involved are critical.
